Rob Hughes

Head of Teaching and Learning and Designated Safeguarding Lead

I began my career in education in 2007 as a secondary school science teacher, driven by a passion for helping students achieve their outcomes. I was particularly drawn to those for whom success in traditional settings was more challenging, always believing there should be alternative ways for students to connect with their learning. My focus has always been on innovative, engaging methods that inspire curiosity and enable students to thrive.

In 2014, I joined Tute as a science teacher, delivering thousands of lessons in our online classroom. This gave me invaluable insight into addressing educational gaps and working closely with students to re-engage them in learning. Tute’s mission to fill these gaps resonated deeply with me, and in 2019, I became Head of Teaching and Learning. Building on foundations, I’m proud to elevate and expand what Tute offers to students and partners.

Success, for me, comes from the small victories that accumulate into transformative changes for students, helping them achieve lasting impacts and meaningful opportunities for the future. My role is driven by the belief that every student deserves access to high-quality education, and I am proud to be part of a service that delivers just that.

As Head of Teaching and Learning, I lead a team dedicated to ensuring excellence in education while prioritising student welfare. My team includes three Assistant Heads, each focusing on curriculum, quality, and inclusion and SEND. Together, we have developed a service that goes beyond teaching, providing pathways to success for students who need it most.

I am also Designated Safeguarding Lead, ensuring that students feel safe in every sense – safeguarded in their learning environment and supported by professional teachers who challenge, mentor, and guide them toward shared aspirations. My leadership style values creativity, innovation, and collaboration, both within the Tute team and with our partners. I see our partners as an extension of our team, working closely with them to align our services with their needs and goals.
