Our Teacher Cooperative
Tute is also building the UK’s first teaching cooperative, an education company in which teachers are co-owners, or partners. The cooperative forms the foundation of Tute’s purpose - to make the best teaching available to all, irrespective of location or background. You can read more about Tute’s Creed here
In the UK teachers are not celebrated, and the excellent education materials they produce – crafted, inspirational learning content – is almost ‘a best kept secret’. It is kept this way because the environment in which teachers are forced to operate is a competitive one, and sharing excellence only means that somebody else gains.
Tute believes that, in order to democratise education, this situation needs to change. It is wrong that the best teaching is available only to the minority: valuable learning content should be placed into a central repository and be made available to everyone. To achieve this, Tute is building a Professional Teacher Cooperative (PTC).
The PTC will be a legally formed company, and teachers will co-own, co-found and co-run the business. This will ensure that the interests of teachers and Tute are aligned, and places teaching excellence as the foundation of all that we do.
Collectively, teachers know most of what is needed to be known to teach well. Tute wants to foster collaboration between teachers, and to create a wider community in which parents and students can also become involved, but with teachers at the core. After all it is obvious: decisions about how best to educate children should be made by the people best qualified to deliver that learning.
Tute is mandated under its Creed to focus its resources on daring and disruptive changes which deliver education equity. We want teachers to be our partners in delivering this change. We think the timing is right to build an education content business of value, and to return part of this value to the teachers who help to support its creation.
If you are interested in joining our partnership then please drop us an email at partners@tute.com and one of our partnership team will be in touch.
